Where Quality Still Counts

As we enter the second quarter of 2010, economists still predict a slow economic recovery. Some prognosticators predict the end of 2011 before the economy recovers. We’ve heard stories about restaurants cutting costs by purchasing lower grade cuts of meat to serve at the table. Trucking companies are deferring maintenance on their truck fleets in order to stay out on the road. If we applied this to dentistry, would we consider placing lower grade restorative materials in patients mouths? How about suggesting patients defer treatment even thought they have recurrent caries on a tooth?
Both decisions could spell disaster for a practice because they create bigger problems for patients in the future, and, are unethical practices. So what can all dentists do to position themselves for success? Remember one of the most important aspects of dental care: Quality Still Counts!
Everyone strives for quality but other factors can affect the outcomes of dental care. Economic factors can have a great effect. Patients may choose to defer treatment based on cost. Dentists may feel pressured to schedule more treatments in a day to catch up for reduced production at this time. Just remember to make sure you are able to maintain your high standards. The best marketing for you is the patient that walks out of your office and says, “Wow, that was a great experience. I’m going to tell my friends to come here!”
Help maintain the trusted reputation of dentists by preserving quality care. Not all patients will choose the most expensive treatment option. There are usually alternatives. Those patients that defer treatment will likely return to complete their treatment plans when the economy turns around.
Remember: Quality Counts!!!
